An end of tenancy clean is the one clean in London where the standard is set by somebody else: the inventory clerk. Cleaning is the most common reason for deposit disputes, so the job is to return the property to the condition recorded at check-in, room by room, against the inventory.
Inside the oven, hob, extractor filter and grill pan; inside every cupboard, drawer and the fridge-freezer (defrosted in advance); descaling taps, shower screens and toilets; skirting boards, door frames, light switches and sockets; the inside of windows and window tracks; and every floor vacuumed and mopped. Carpet cleaning is usually priced separately, and many tenancy agreements ask for a receipt for it.
Reputable end of tenancy companies offer a free return visit if the landlord or agent flags an item within 48 to 72 hours of the clean. Ask for that in writing before you book. It is the most useful thing you can have if the check-out report comes back with cleaning points.
Book the clean for the day before check-out, or the morning of, with the property already empty. Furniture, boxes and bags left behind slow the team down and leave areas that cannot be cleaned. Keys and access are the usual reason jobs overrun, so agree how the cleaners get in before the day.
